Utilizing a refined version of the basic system for War at Sea, The Kaiser's High Seas Fleet takes us back to World War I prior to the invention of Radar and no air power.
This is a two player game in which one player represents the Central Powers consisting of Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire. The other represents the Entente Powers consisting of Great Britain, France, Italy, and Russia. The USA is neutral until Turn 7, when it joins the Entente. Portugal and Greece are always neutral.
Players will move and fight Dreadnoughts (Battleships) to seize and control ocean areas for victory. U-Boat campaigns are reflected by placing U-Boat counters for Victory Points. Pre-Dreadnoughts are included but their effectiveness is greatly reduced. There are no auxiliary ships.
The objective is to score as many Victory Points (VP) as possible at the end of each turn. These are marked on the Victory Point Track (VPT) during the Area Control Phase. The player whose marker is on the track is ahead in points. At the end of the July/December 1918 turn, the player whose marker is showing wins the game. If the marker is at 0, the Entente Powers win but the Central Powers have gained a ‘moral’ victory.

Barbarians at the Gates, The Decline and Fall of the Western Roman Empire 337 – 476, is a card-driven game by game designer, Kris van Beurden (whose credits include Europe in Turmoil) for two players set during the final century of the Western Roman Empire. The Roman player commands the Roman legions loyal to the failing central authority and those Germanic peoples who have settled peacefully inside the Roman Empire, while the Barbarian player leads Usurper Emperors, and controls the migrations of the savage Germanic peoples, who are the Barbarians at the Gates.
The Battle of Chickasaw Bayou was a grand missed opportunity for the Union Army in its desire to crush the Rebellion. If Union General Sherman had proceeded with haste, the Federals could have captured Vicksburg and delivered a master stroke against the Rebels seven months before Vicksburg surrendered on July 4, 1863. Historically, the Union took four days to launch their "Grand Assault", giving the Confederate defenders in their trenches ample time to receive much-needed reinforcements. Can you do better than Sherman?
The Prelude to Vicksburg game system is from Revolution Games' popular Blind Swords series that utilizes a chit-pull mechanic emphasizing the three "FOW's" of military conflict: Fog of War, Friction of War, and Fortunes of War.
